The deadly risk associated with indoor tanning

A new study published in the December 1, 2008 issue of CANCER (a journal of the American Cancer Society) cites that more than 1.3 million skin cancer diagnoses occurs each year in the U.S. Experts are attempting to find ways to educate and hopefully modify the sun exposure habits of young people in an effort to stem the rise of skin cancer rates. For those of you using indoor tanning beds during the colder months, beware that artificial sunlight can be as damaging to your skin and eyes as the real thing.

In fact, artificial UV rays from tanning beds and sunlamps can be as much as 20 times stronger than natural sunlight. The proven dangers have prompted several medical organizations to advocate a ban on their use by teenagers. A safe alternative to consider is self-tanning products that provide gradual and even colour. Look for 2-in-1 body moisturizers with self-tanning capabilities for a convenient and easy way to achieve a healthy golden glow - without putting yourself in harm’s way!
