Ultraviolet light (lightwaves 200-400nm) from the sun can cause sunburn if your skin is exposed for too long. There are four types of UV light:

  • Ultraviolet A1 (UVA 1) 340-400nm
  • Ultraviolet A2 (UVA2) 320-340nm
  • Ultraviolet B (UVB) 290-320nm
  • Ultraviolet C (UVC 200-290nm

UVA sun damage (340-400nm), and UVC sun damage (up to 340nm) comprise the majority of sun damage. UVA damage causes the skin to tan, and develop weak sun burns. UVC damage causes the skin to burn.
